Pr. 14:34 TPT A nation is exalted by the righteousness of its people, but sin heaps disgrace upon the land.

Righteousness: right relationship with God, which leads us to live by God’s word Rom. 10:9, 10 2 Cor. 5:21

Jesus said you, his followers, are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

How can we be a righteous influence in our nation? 2 Chron. 7:14

Be:

I. Humble Ps. 10:4, 6, 7, 11-13, 17

Pride makes us think we don’t need God, and that we’ll not give account to God for how we live. Humility admits that we need God, so we seek him. We need the Lord to save us from our sins, and we need him every day.

Let’s seek God for personal revival and a closer walk.

II. Prayerful 1 Tim. 2:1-4

Those in positions of authority make decisions and pass laws that potentially affect every area of our lives. We’re to pray for our leaders so that we live in peace as we do God’s word and share the truth that leads people to Jesus. Jesus told us to pray for God’s kingdom to come and his will to be done here. We pray to break spiritual strongholds. We pray for revival and spiritual awakening.

We have a unique, Christian influenced heritage. Our Founders established a representative republic. Our civil laws are to be based on “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God” as our Declaration of Independence states. They established a separation of powers (Isa. 33:22), a justice system to punish the evil and praise good 1 Pet 2:13, 14, etc.

III. Faithful Rev. 17:14

God is faithful to his word & to us. By God’s grace and his Spirit in our hearts, we can be faithful to him. Those with Jesus are faithful, not perfect, but faithful. We must stay in close fellowship with him every day. And God rewards us for being faithful to him.

Puritans and Pilgrims came to this land wanting freedom of religion to worship & live according to God’s word (1st Amendment).

We need followers of Jesus to be a righteous influence in our homes, churches, schools & universities, government, media, military, and entertainment/sports.

Let’s thank God for the good in America and promote it. Let’s recognize the bad and seek to correct. And let’s avoid the ugly, by how we treat one another and talk about one another.

How will you be a righteous influence for our God?
