Gal. 6:7-9 Let us not grow weary, we will reap in due season
Psalm 1 contrasts God’s way to live with the world’s way.
It reveals God’s way to be blessed, fruitful and prosperous. To prosper means to prevail or succeed.
Ps. 1:1 We must know the truth of God’s word to discern and avoid ungodly counsel or advice that would lead us out of God’s will and into a sinful path. Scornful may be those who mock God and his word. Walks, stands, sits, reveals lifestyle.
Whose words are you living by?
Jesus said there are two paths before us. One leads to life, the other leads to destruction. Sadly, many are on the path to destruction Mt. 7:13, 14. Thank God, we can turn from our way to God’s way by believing God’s word and receiving Jesus as our sinless, crucified, and risen Lord.
Three steps to prosper God’s way:
I. Delight in God’s word Ps. 1:2
If we delight in, or find pleasure in, God’s word, we will want to learn it, feed our faith in God on it, and do it.
One day, Jesus taught in the home of two sisters, Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and listened to his word. Martha was distracted, busy. As a result, she was worried and troubled.
Someone with Voice of the Martyrs said, “Our anxiety often drives us to frantically try to ‘fix’ whatever makes us uncomfortable. It’s wisest to begin the day by simply sit- ting at Jesus’ feet and listening to his word.”
II. Dwell on God’s word Ps. 1:2
Jesus said the devil tries to steal God’s word out of our hearts. Don’t let him. Guard the seed of God’s word and water it by meditating on it.
Meditate is mutter, to speak to oneself. The same Hebrew word is translated “speak” in Ps. 35:28. Dwell on that truth and speak it or sing it to internalize it. Scripture compares it to eating, it’s lifestyle. Meditating on God’s word is a good way to begin and end each day “day and night.”
III. Do God’s word Jas. 1:25; Ps. 1:3; 92:12-15
The blessing is in doing God’s word. A tree planted by rivers of water pictures abiding in Christ as our source.
You may not feel like you’re growing or that you see the fruit you desire. You are not alone. Be encouraged. We do not typically see growth in a tree overnight either. Fruit takes time to grow.
Growth in Christlikeness begins within and manifests in its season. Fruit is for the glory of God.
Ps. 1:4-6 “Lord knows and fully approves…” AMP God’s goal for us is to stay close to him and grow in Christlikeness.
God uses people and circumstances in this process.
How is God working in you to grow in Christlikeness?
Is God working in you to receive his unconditional love and rest in his sovereignty? Is it to love others as he loves you? Is God working in you to trust him for grace to do his will? Is it to free you from resentment or to empower you to overcome fear?
We can be blessed, fruitful, and prosperous for God through trying seasons and people.
What truth will you dwell on this week to stay close to the Lord and grow in him?
