Ps. 6:3; 13:1, 2 I understand what people mean when they say we shouldn’t question God. We’re not to question God as a demand that he must explain himself and his actions to us. But who better to ask life’s hardest and most painful questions than the Lord? Bringing these questions to God can show that we trust him Ps. 62:8.
We started a series of messages last week from Psalms. The psalms are songs and prayers expressing the full range of human emotions and experiences. We can relate to these inspired words so that we pour out our hearts to God and trust him in our life’s experiences.
Trust God and tell him what?
I. My problems Ps. 13:1, 2
Problem is a question raised for solution, a source of distress, or a difficulty in understanding or accepting. Throughout God’s word, we learn of people who brought their problems and questions of all kinds to God because they believed he could answer or help in some way.
David’s question in Psalm 6 implies that he had sinned and needed God’s forgiveness Ps. 6:1-3. Even when he experienced consequences of his choices, David knew where to turn for mercy, forgiveness, and healing 6:8, 9.
In Psalm 13, David’s circumstances made it seem as if the Lord was hiding when David really needed him. David was real with God. He poured his heart out to God as wrestled with his doubts, fears, and feelings. 13:3; 19:8 The truths of God’s word can bring joy to our hearts and light to the eyes of our faith when all seems dark. 13:4 If it’s not bad enough that we go through life’s hard times, we have an adversary, the accuser, who condemns and mocks us, and slanders God to us during the tough times.
62:8 God is our safe place. Pouring our heart out to God draws us closer to him. He is the source of all all that is good, every blessing.
II. My praises Ps. 13:5, 6
We praise the Lord because we trust him. We rely on him. We’re confident in his mercy, his goodness, and his lovingkindness to us. It flows from relationship. David started with his problems, but pressed on with his praise. We can praise our way through doubt, fear, problems, questions. We can praise our way to victory 18:3.
God is true; his word is true. The Lord is with us, and he’s working in us, even when it seems that he is not. “I have…My heart shall rejoice in your deliverance, help, rescue (Heb. Yesua) 13:5. “I will sing…He has…13:6.
When we don’t know the why, we can trust the who Job 23:8-10; Rom. 8:31, 32.
Do you know the Lord. Will you trust him and get to know him better?
